Position Title: Sr. Radio Broadcast Specialist/New (News Director)
Organization: South Dakota Public Broadcasting
Description: Position Purpose: Oversees the daily assignments and programming content and priorities for the entire SDPB Radio News staff, both in Vermillion and in our bureaus around the State. Assignments will include SDPB staff and freelance/independent producers around the State.
Research, write, record and edit news features and stories for both radio use, and in an evolving multi-media and multi-platform environment. Will serve as Producer for SDPB's "IDEAS" series. Will work closely with the host and producer of SDPB's "Dakota Midday", our locally produced daily news/interview/public affairs/arts and entertainment program. May produce documentaries, anchor newscasts and serve as back-up host for live news/talk programs.
Qualifications/Requirements: Knowledge of: practices, principles and techniques of radio broadcast production; assignment editor duties and responsibilities; announcing techniques; research practices; broadcast writing; digital audio computer editing; video production and web basics.
Ability to: speak clearly and fluently; communicate with a wide variety of personalities; condense written and verbal information into short and concise statements; move equipment necessary for recording programs; write news stories and produce spot news reports; direct the work of subordinate staff.
Additional Requirements: In addition to the application, applicant must submit a cd or audio file with 20 minutes of work including samples of spot news, features and newscasts clearly labeled. If applicable, please include any video production samples on file or dvd. Please include details on any assignment editor experience.
Comments: The incumbent will lead the news efforts of a nine-station SDPB Radio network, and for other cooperative SDPB efforts in an evolving multi-media environment. This position requires strong news judgment, organizational skills, writing, editing and reporting skills with the ability to produce spot news reports and in-depth features. Efficient researching skills as well as strong news judgment are essential. Ability to host on-air news and talk programming as needed. Knowledge of the National Public Radio format and public radio style is desired. Possible opportunities to work with PBS television projects. Please note any television experience.
Salary: $13.91 - $17.39 per hour, depending on experience N14 how
