In BEYOND the Basics, the focus is on the PD's role in the context of the station's entire operation; as a prime contributor to the healthy maintenance of its two "bottom lines" - public service and public support.

This workshop is designed to get you to the next professional level. Success demands a detailed understanding of tools and skills that usually takes a PD a lot of time, experience and mistakes to acquire. Choosing just the right audience measures, along with just the right management and communications techniques are critical to improving your audience service.

BEYOND the Basics accelerates that learning process by focusing on practical application. In two days you'll know better how to

  • Define your goal and identify its component parts.
  • Decide which combination of data and techniques are needed.
  • Apply your own audience data .
  • Use system knowledge.
  • Manage and get the cooperation of those you supervise .
  • Coordinate your goal with those of your colleagues .
  • See your goal in context of the whole operation.
Trainers Craig Oliver, Research Analyst; Bruce Warren, PD for WXPN; and John Hess, GM, BSU Radio will customize the workshop to the specific needs and issues of participants who will be surveyed in advance about their current challenges. Peer interaction is a key component of the experience. With over 100 years of combined experience in programming, management and research, the BTB leaders are uniquely positioned to help you apply best practices to the real-life challenges of the Program Director.

The workshop is limited to 18 participants who already have a basic understanding of audience data and a similar level of professional acuity. (Pre-requisite is completion of PD Workshop or demonstration of equivalent knowledge).

The cost is $525 for PRPD members, $695 for nonmembers. Hotel rate $169 for single/$175 double occupancy.
